Weymouth Cup Winners
To date, Weymouth High School students have raised $31,400 for donation to the Weymouth Public Schools! |
At the Weycathlon, 500 students from the Weymouth Public Schools competed on eight teams, one for each of the Primary Schools in Weymouth. Each team consisted of 25 primary school students as well as alumni currently attending the middle and high schools. The teams competed in field-day style events and tournaments to win the Weymouth Cup. This year, Team Wessagusset took home the Weymouth Cup finishing first in fundraising, soccer and basketball earning them a total of 140 points.
High school participants who attended the event raised money in a walk-a-thon style fundraising campaign. High school attendees raised $4,607 for donation to their primary schools. Primary and middle school students who attended the event were selected by their schools to be recognized as Jr. VIPs. These students are recognized because they demonstrated valuable, inspirational and purposeful volunteerism either in, or out of the classroom. A new addition to the Weycathlon this year was the selection of a theme. This year’s theme was the slogan ‘Be More Kind’ In response to this year’s continued senseless violence in schools, Weymouth students from across the district made kindness chains adding a link each time they did a deliberate act of kindness. In total, Weymouth students recorded 3,642 acts of deliberate kindness in the ‘Be More Kind’ campaign. A banner, signed by all Weycathlon participants, now hangs at Pleasant Street calling for the community to follow the lead of our inspiring students. |
